The Cox Family
Cedar City, UT
What is your favorite family tradition?
Being a single working mom of three kids, it can be hard sometimes to not only find the time but also be able to afford to do a lot of things as a family. The kids and I love being outdoors and last year I purchased a kayak for my oldest son for Christmas. It was something that he had (oddly) been wanting for quite some time so I went ahead and made the big purchase and it has been 100% worth it.
On the weekends we take it to the lake in our town and spend all day playing in the sand and water and just being present with one another. In the winter, the kids like to pull the kayak into the living room and pretend that they are on the water and use their imaginations.
Tell us about your favorite family story.
My middle son has Autism and a speech delay. As you can imagine, life has been challenging at times but more so it has been adventurous and fun. We love laughing and between the three kids and myself, there is never a shortage of laughter. Everyone has really rallied around Cayson with adapting and accommodating his needs, all while still treating him like a regular child and not walking on egg shells. I love my family and the support that they offer, not just to Cayson but to myself and my other two children.
What is your family's motto?
Just breathe. Be present. Live in the moment.

What's your number one tip for new parents?
Just go with the flow and do what feels right. And know that when someone offers you unsolicited advice, they do mean well, just take it and thank them.
What has been the most surprising thing you've learned as a parent?
That baby wipes are a staple, even after everyone is out of diapers.
Tell us about your funniest parenting story (we all have them!)
My dad goes to a bible study that he refers to as 'drinking with Jesus' because it was held at a Brewery in our small town. He had been Facetiming with my oldest (who was about 5 at the time) and said 'Ok buddy, well I've got to go drink with Jesus so I'll talk to you soon!'
Shortly after, my son and I went to the store for a few things and when we were in the checkout line, the lady in front of us was given her total and she gasped and said 'oh Jesus!' referring to the amount that she had spent. Cody quickly said 'Oh hey, I know that guy Jesus!' The cashier and the lady both beamed with approval and as they were saying 'awwww' he quickly said 'My grandpa drinks with him!' I about died. I'm sure you had to be there, but it was pretty funny when you saw the looks on their faces.
