We have lots of fun traditions but, my ultimate favorite is the day we set up our Christmas tree we each buy each other a Christmas Ornament that represents something that was important to us that year. This year (2019) my son who loves baseball will get an ornament with his team colors and the year on it.My daughter who is in love with JoJo Siwa will get a big bow ornament and my husband who just got back from an 11 month military deployment will get an ornament of Africa since that was where he was stationed. Our Christmas tree is a reminder of memories we have created over the years. It is a big scatter of randomness but it is full of our Metzger Family memories.
My husband loves camping (I'm more of a Glamper) but you know, we all have to make sacrifices every once in awhile for our significant other. Anyway, my son was 2 and I was pregnant with my daughter. My husband thought it would be a great ideas to go camping, hiking, and canoeing over a weekend in June. Of course it was summer and crazy hot.
As most of us momma's know heat and pregnancy don't mix. We were going canoeing with a group of other friends and my husband thought it would be a great idea to go down the "faster" stream. It completely caught us off guard and our canoe flipped. While, I'm holding my son out of the water my husband is trying to catch all of our towels and bags that are going down the river. At the time it wasn't a fun story but now I can sit back and laugh at our epic camping fail. That was 7 years ago and we haven't been since.
Wow!!! I have lots of tips I wish people would of shared with me. I guess my biggest tip is to take one day at a time. Babies change your entire family dynamic (in a good way). However, it can be challenging to be prepared for every thing that can happen. Try to laugh when you want to cry and cry while your laughing.
I never thought I could love anyone as much as I love my kids and husband. I also was surprised at how much stuff there is to remember as a parent. You have doctors appointments, sports engagements, birthday parties, play dates, snacks, themed school days, etc. I literally have three online calendars I keep so I don't forget anything.
My daughter loves animals and I would say the funniest story I have includes her at age 3 digging for worms. She dug up about 5 worms one day and I told her she had to put them back because they would die in the heat. She argued with me for about 20 minutes telling me that their mom died and she needed to take of them because they didn't have a family. She literally thought they would not survive in the wild without her.
