Eden is our first child so we don't have many family traditions of our own yet. One favorite small tradition is doing family bedtime, when both Mom and Dad are home and able to get Eden ready for bed, read her a book, and say our prayers together. It's my favorite way to end the day.
We currently live on the opposite coast from both of our families. After Eden was born, almost every single member of our families flew out to see us, culminating in a three-month rotation of our favorite people coming to meet our little girl. We are so grateful we had our families' support in those first few months, and those precious memories, even though we live so far away.
Prepare. Plan. Have fun.
Know that you were created to be that baby's parent. There is no one better.
The most surprising thing we've learned as parents is that there seem to be no facts regarding babies, but lots of opinions and everything is considered "normal." For example, your baby should poop once within their first 24 hours of life. Oh, your baby pooped 6 times? That's fine, too.
We flew across the country to visit family when Eden was about four months old. Getting through the airport and onto the plane was almost as stressful as labor. We finally relaxed when we were on the plane, including Eden who had a MASSIVE blowout that went all the way up her back and through all layers of the baby wrap I was wearing her in. We had to sit there until the seatbelt light when off, then it took both of our efforts in the airplane bathroom to totally strip her down and clean her. It's only funny now. :)
